Projects: The Chequers, Harlow
This small site in the centre of Harlow is currently occupied by a vacant public house. Fluid Design are appointed to redevelop the site with four large detached houses. The site comes with a number of challenges which include several mature TPO trees and a 6m sewer easement running right through the middle of the site essentially splitting it in two. It also sits within what Harlow Planning call a ‘green wedge’ which is essentially a belt of open landscape in which development will generally be resisted. As this site already contains a public house and car park the criteria for redevelopment is met. The planning application was lodged in December 2012 and planning permission was granted in February 2013.
